History Tour 5th July 2018

THE HIDDEN GEMS OF NORTH YORKSHIRE TOUR – hosted by Rod Jenkinson

ON THURSDAY JULY 5th 2018 – Transport will be provided meet at 11.00am at the Village Hall

This guided tour will visit seven Historical sites, with accompanying visual aids to enhance our understanding of each site within a 25 mile radius of Sutton under Whitestonecliffe.

One outstanding visit will be a rare opportunity to view the English Heritage Archaeological Store based in Helmsley.  This remarkable collection contains artefacts from various historical properties stretching from the Scottish Border to Lincolnshire in the east and Cheshire in the west of northern England.   In total, 41 historical properties together with their contents, archaeological finds and architectural fragments are preserved here.  They present new research and reveal new acquisitions and loans recently restored.   Enjoy the stories behind the collection and have a opportunity to handle original artefacts.  This will be a very special private viewing.

The visit will conclude with an ‘optional’  non-inclusive meal at The White Swan, Ampleforth.

The cost of the tour will be £20 with all proceeds donated to the maintenance of Sutton Village Hall
